Would you like to have a great local meal for National Day on 9th August? STREET 50 Restaurant & Bar at Bay Hotel has a feast to pay tributes to the country’s iconic dishes.
To zing up the authentic flavours, foodies can look forward to savour some scrumptious national food that are delicately prepared with a twist. When asked about his inspiration for the menu, Chef Ricky remarks, “In reflection of our current modern city, we wanted to create our own interpretations of Singapore’s classic local favourites, yet retaining the unique local identity.”
The National Buffet Extravaganza has the following highlights
Steamed Hainanese Chicken with Breaded Rice Balls, which resembles alot like the Malacca Chicken Rice Balls. The twist with the Japanese bread crumb layering is pretty well done! Normal portion would be around 3 to 4 balls.
The Paper-wrapped Chicken Risotto is presented with an Italian twist. Arborio rice are stuffed into chicken mid-wings, which are marinated for six hours with a blend of Chinese herbs and spices, before they are wrapped into little packages and deep-fried to perfection. Every package is a harmonious marriage of Chinese-Italian flavours, one is never enough. We feel it could be slightly larger but then again the portioning allows you to have more variety!
Chilli Crab Penne this we must warn. It is really spicy, putting the red on the faces of those who take chilli. However the charm of this dish is that it keeps you going. You wouldnt want to stop. Might be the sweetness or just the combination of ingredients and Fusion of East and West that perks the interest to finish it!
Tiger Prawns with Warm Ginger Sauce are paired with chef’s very own homemade ginger dip, it enhances the prawn’s natural sweetness and gives it an aromatic kick. This soulful dish is sure to warm up your taste bud and get you ready for the mains.
The Yam paste with Gingko Nuts come dressed with the coconut milk. However those strongly rooted Singaporeans and traditional yam paste goers might find this dish a little too modern for them. Freshly made we believe, just ask for the salted coconut milk to be provided separately. Healthier and the dessert is less oily than others.
Other than the dessert of the buffet, the other desserts from the menu are available too, such as Tiramisu and the Banana Fritters.
Apart from these highlights, this buffet spread also offers other varieties such as Seafood Selection, Braised Sea-cucumber with Baby Abalone, Fried Scallop Cake with Yam, Bak Kut Teh, Teochew Braised Duck in and STREET 50’s popular Durian Pengat.
Once again! This buffet is exclusively available on 9th August 2014, from 6.30pm – 10pm, the buffet is priced at $49++ for adult, and the 4th paying adult dines at $4.90++ with every three paying adults. Kids between 6 and 12 enjoy the buffet at $25++. Every paying adult and kid will receive a complimentary Singapore Sling cocktail or Merlion Swing mocktail, a replica of the classic local cocktail.
