The French Cellar
(Media Tasting)

Wines from The French Cellar is not just wines from Bordeaux or Burgundy. The founders have brought in a sommelier Nicolas Rebut (Former Chef Sommelier of the prestigious 3-Star Michelin restaurants: Le Meurice in Paris and Louis XV (Alain Ducasse) in Monaco) who is known to introduce wines from vineyards which are up and rising.

The four wines tasted were from (left to right) Corsica, Rhone Valley South, Burgundy and Savoie. The crowd favourite for the tasting was the Cairanne, Domaine Marcel Richaud, 2011 from Rhone Valley South. With its elegant dark purplish colour and an impressive plum and cherry nose, it filled the palate with a strong powerful taste and ended with strong tannins with a decently timed fruity finish. Strongly recommended with beef and even strong tasting Asian cuisine, chilli crab perhaps.

The surprising part of the tasting was not only in its wines. The French Cellar has 4 subscriptions to allow wine lovers in Singapore a chance to taste 2 wines selected personally by Nicolas in France every month (see http://www.thefrenchcellar.sg/subscribe). He travels extensively around France to taste and send to Singapore. Subscribers to this service will receive wine no later than 1 week from the time the bottle leaves France to their door in Singapore. The service is as simple as a 1 month subscription to a full 12 months. If you really love the wine, a reorder is also possible. Subscribers are also encouraged to share their rating and experience of the wine on their website too. Another interesting idea is to present this subscription as a gift to a friend in Singapore!

Innovatively thought of, this combination of e-commerce and quality authentic French wines was pursued by Jackie Lee (Chairman - Kyosei Ventures). With his experience and success with creating Hardwarezone portal, he believed Singapore was a great start to launch e-commerce for wines and pursued the Dr Vincent Morello and Eric Joubert in this venture.

Promising venture and definitely one to look out for.
